The National Park Service has chosen two agency veterans to lead Antietam National Battlefield and Harpers Ferry National Historical Park.

Tanya Gossett, who has 30 years of experience, will become the new superintendent at Harpers Ferry, while Andrew Banasik will take over at Antietam. He began his NPS career in 1997.

Both are set to begin their new jobs May 19, NPS said Tuesday.

The parks are popular with tourists and a short drive from Washington. Antietam preserves the site of an 1862 Civil War battle in Sharpsburg, Maryland, while Harpers Ferry is located at the confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers and includes land in West Virginia, Virginia and Maryland.
