The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will vote this week on Nuclear Regulatory Commission Chair Christopher Hanson’s bid to serve another term.
Also on the agenda is bipartisan legislation to reauthorize a signature Great Lakes environmental program.
Hanson, renominated by President Joe Biden in March, has enjoyed a relatively smooth confirmation process so far. Democrats and some Republicans have praised his efforts to balance nuclear safety with the timely development of new reactors.
EPW ranking member Shelley Moore Capito’s opinion will be crucial for Hanson’s confirmation prospects. She was tough in her questions during a confirmation hearing earlier this month.
