Jim Simon, Oceana’s longtime president, will take over as the organization’s CEO on July 1.
Simon will replace Andrew Sharpless, who’s retiring after leading the ocean advocacy group for more than 20 years.
In an announcement last week, Oceana’s board of directors said it decided to appoint Simon after conducting an eight-month global search.
“With the choice of Jim Simon as the organization’s new CEO, Oceana continues in its role as the ocean advocate that gets stuff done, expanding our impact as the most effective international advocacy organization dedicated solely to the restoration of ocean abundance,” said Sam Waterston, Oceana’s board chair.
