A leading Oklahoma candidate for governor is attacking the largest property insurer in his state, indicating that consumer frustration with claims denials and rising insurance prices could galvanize campaigns and voters.
Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond (R) has announced an investigation into State Farm for its claims practices. He’s also asked to join a civil lawsuit in the state that alleges the company, which is the nation’s largest property insurer, systematically denies claims for roofs damaged by hail or wind.
“Oklahomans can weather inflation and Oklahoma storms, but they cannot withstand a system in which they are charged more while effectively insured less,” Drummond said in a release.
Drummond announced in January he will run for governor in 2026. He has publicly criticized Insurance Commissioner Glen Mulready, a fellow Republican, for doing too little about rising insurance prices.
