The head of the Trump administration’s human resources agency doesn’t want federal employees to expect to be there forever.
Scott Kupor, the head of the Office of Personnel Management, wants to upend the idea that employees entering the federal workforce ought to stick around forever, he told POLITICO reporters during a wide-ranging interview Thursday.
Kupor is at the center of the Trump administration’s push to shake up the federal workforce, including through a recent push that incentivized workers — including longtime senior officials — to leave their jobs. Kupor also on Thursday announced a final rule aimed at making it easier to fire civil servants deemed to be thwarting the administration’s agenda.
“I don’t think the idea that people come to government because they think they have lifetime employment — I don’t think that’s a very compelling idea. And I don’t think that’s actually just a fair representation of how the world works, quite frankly,” Kupor said.
