The vast majority of EPA’s workforce will be furloughed until a new government funding deal is reached.

The agency posted its latest shutdown plan online, detailing which operations will continue or cease during a lapse in appropriations. That plan also shares how many EPA employees would keep working while others would face furloughs until funding is restored by Capitol Hill lawmakers.

Overall, there are 15,166 employees on board at EPA, according to the plan. If there is a shutdown, 1,734 of them would be retained to perform necessary functions, such as protecting life and property, or because they are financed outside of annual appropriations.

That leaves 13,432 EPA employees who would not show up to work during a shutdown.
