Mark Miller and his nonprofit, the Pacific Legal Foundation, have long fought against regulations they perceive to be government overreach.
Now, with the Trump administration looking to scale back regulatory hurdles, public frustrations with environmental laws enacted in the 1970s and mounting interest from the left in ditching some rules that stifle development, Miller hopes to build some unexpected alliances.
“We’re excited,” Miller, PLF’s director of environment and natural resources litigation, said in a recent interview. “There seems to be an opportunity to build new coalitions.”
Miller leads a new environment and natural resources practice group PLF launched in July. It was in the works before Donald Trump clinched the presidential election, Miller said. While the Trump administration is “talking a very good game on a lot of these issues, I think they’re still trying to figure out how they put talk into action.”
