A House Natural Resources subcommittee this week will pore over a group of bills meant to facilitate fossil fuel and renewable energy production on public lands.

The Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources will meet Wednesday to discuss H.R. 5639, the “Co-Location Energy Act,” from Rep. Mike Kennedy (R-Utah), which would allow new wind and solar production on existing oil, gas and geothermal leases.

“Co-locating energy resources will help to streamline project approvals and provide new economic opportunities for local communities,” said Kennedy in a statement about the legislation co-sponsored by Rep. Mike Levin (D-Calif.).

Also from Kennedy, H.R. 7831, the “License to Drill Act,” would extend the period of time the Interior Department is required to collect fee payments for new drilling applications.
