The head of the National Park Service met with leaders of an LGBTQ+ employee group last week in the wake of furor over the park service’s uniform policy.

NPS Director Chuck Sams invited the leadership of the LGBTQ+ employee resource group to meet with him to discuss their concerns, according to an email obtained by POLITICO’s E&E News that was sent Tuesday to members of the employee group.

Last week’s meeting came after the park service announced just ahead of Pride Month that employees were barred from wearing their uniforms at parades and other Pride events where they’d been allowed to wear them previously. Interior Secretary Deb Haaland intervened soon after, declaring that employees could get permission to wear their uniforms to some external events, including events honoring LGBTQ+ people.

“We are grateful and appreciate the time and extent to which Director Sams sat down with us last week to thoughtfully listen to your feedback and concerns,” the leaders of the LGBTQ+ employee group wrote.
