LOS ANGELES — October imports at the Port of Los Angeles dipped slightly compared to the same period last year, but the nation’s largest port complex is still on pace for one of its most productive years ever despite the Trump administration’s tariff policies, its executive director said Tuesday.
What happened: Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka said during a media briefing that 848,000 containers moved through the country’s busiest port during October, 6 percent below the same month last year.
Imports at the port have dropped following a record-breaking July where the facility moved over 1 million containers, breaking its previous high in May 2021, as international shipping rebounded from pandemic shutdowns. Seroka said that still puts the port on pace to surpass 10 million containers moved this year.
“When we reach that milestone, it would be the third time in our history, something no other port in the western hemisphere has achieved,” he said.
