ALBANY, New York — Lawmakers will get big bonuses on environmental scorecards for supporting “superbills,” including a packaging reduction measure that faces strong industry opposition.
The New York League of Conservation Voters and Environmental Advocates NY announced the revival of this superbill designation Wednesday. The groups have previously clashed on the details of how to address packaging and a clean fuel standard for transportation.
But this session the two have come together to break through the noise of an election year session with many competing priorities. The groups are leveraging their scorecards — the only two to rank lawmakers based on environmental issues in the state — to pressure legislators.
“We’re more effective when we’re all speaking with one voice,” said Patrick McClellan, policy director with NYLCV.
