HOUSTON — A top State Department official traveled to Texas’ largest city to proclaim that the U.S. is eager to keep natural gas exports flowing.

Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Geoffrey Pyatt told a crowd of energy executives and energy ministers last week that the United States is both committed to providing reliable access to natural gas to global trading partners and to holding other nations accountable for cutting greenhouse gas emissions.

Pyatt, who became an assistant secretary in 2022 after stints as ambassador to Greece and Ukraine, said Russia’s invasion of Ukraine that year highlighted the importance of making sure the United States provides a reliable source of energy for its European allies.
