A top House Republican says his party will take a “surgical” approach to Inflation Reduction Act repeals, as lawmakers look to finalize their party-line budget reconciliation bill in the coming weeks.
Rep. August Pfluger of Texas — who has quickly risen through the House GOP’s ranks since joining Congress in 2021 — said Republicans are taking a careful look at repealing certain lucrative Inflation Reduction Act incentives that they believe have distorted energy markets in favor of weather-dependent generation sources.
However, Pfluger said Republicans will not be scared to adjust energy markets to provide significant government incentives and regulatory rollbacks for GOP-favored, “reliable” energy sources like oil, gas and nuclear.
Pfluger — who won a House seat after serving as a combat pilot in the Air Force and on the White House National Security Council during President Donald Trump’s first term — has an important voice in reconciliation discussions as chair of the Republican Study Committee, the largest conservative caucus in Congress.
