The legislation will likely get more Democratic pushback than other recent nuclear bills.

Sen. Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming and Rep. Byron Donalds of Florida, both Republicans, touted legislation Thursday that would codify four executive orders on nuclear energy.

The “Strengthening American Nuclear Energy Act” would turn into law four orders from last year to accelerate the deployment of new reactors and streamline Nuclear Regulatory Commission operations.

“Next generation nuclear is reliable, clean, cost effective, and powerful, and it is exactly what America, and our allies need more of,” Lummis said in a statement.

“President Trump prioritized nuclear from day one, and this legislation makes that work permanent. America is moving forward toward energy dominance and next generation nuclear will help lead the way.”
