The group aims to limit permitting and “energy mandates,” echoing some of Donald Trump’s rhetoric on the campaign trail.

Republican Govs. Jeff Landry of Louisiana and Chris Sununu of New Hampshire launched a group this week dedicated to reducing permitting for energy projects and other industry priorities.

The Governors’ Coalition for Energy Choice includes 10 Republican governors, many of whom have criticized the Biden administration’s climate efforts. The group’s mission echoes some of former President Donald Trump’s arguments on the campaign trail about energy “mandates” increasing inflation.

“One thing is clear — states that enhance energy choice also enjoy lower energy costs, increase reliability, and attract businesses and employment opportunities,” Landry said in a press release announcing the new group.

The release said the group’s goals include reducing regulatory barriers, limiting “expensive energy mandates” and focusing on reliability and affordability. It did not detail those regulatory barriers or mandates.
