Florida Republican Rep. Randy Fine is pushing legislation that could lead to the creation of a major new national park in the Sunshine State.

H.R. 4656, the “Path to Florida Springs National Park Act,” would have the Interior Department study whether to make Ocala National Forest and nearby areas part of the national park system.

“Florida contains some of the largest collections of natural springs in the world,” Fine said in a statement to POLITICO’s E&E News. “I believe we should investigate the potential benefits of giving those springs the same recognition as our national parks.”
