Senate Republicans will meet Wednesday to discuss possible changes to the chamber’s rules surrounding presidential nominees, according to two people granted anonymity to disclose private scheduling.
The meeting comes after GOP frustration about the pace of confirmations for President Donald Trump’s nominees boiled over earlier this summer, sparking warnings from Republican senators that they would deploy the party-line “nuclear option” to change the rules for some nominees.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune didn’t give a timeline Tuesday for when Republicans might act. But he said GOP members would meet and “hear out some of the different potential options.”
They include potentially reducing the debate time required for some nominees, allowing for nominees to be considered in groups or getting rid of time-consuming procedural hurdles.
