The Trump administration’s moves to remake the Forest Service are jolting former agency leaders out of what could have been a quiet retirement.
Several retired Forest Service chiefs are pushing back against some of the administration’s actions, including cuts to research and a proposal to transfer wildfire management to the Interior Department.
The seven former chiefs — including Randy Moore, who left the Forest Service weeks after President Donald Trump took office in January — recorded a YouTube video that highlights the agency’s broad historical mission, contrasting the pared-back vision backed by Trump and expressed by the current chief, Tom Schultz.
The National Association of Forest Service Retirees shared the video, which has had a little more than 1,000 views, with congressional offices.
