Descendants of President Theodore Roosevelt are urging Republican senators to reject legislation that would allow mining near Minnesota’s Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.

Ted Roosevelt IV, the former president’s great-grandson, joined his relatives in calling on lawmakers in a Feb. 6 letter to vote down H.J. Res 140 from Rep. Pete Stauber (R-Minn.).

The Congressional Review Act resolution would repeal President Joe Biden’s 2023 order that withdrew 225,000 acres in the Superior National Forest for more than 20 years from new mining.

Last month, the House passed the legislation 214 to 208, mostly along party lines. It could come up for a vote in the Senate as early as next week.
