President Donald Trump has laid out a schedule for his early government-squeezing efforts.
Tucked inside his early flurry of executive orders directing agencies to work with his so-called Department of Government Efficiency are a slew of deadlines for everything from plans to fire employees to goals for sending agencies outside of Washington.
The schedules are designed to prod agencies to swiftly comply with the Trump-DOGE goals of significantly slashing federal spending and the size of the federal government. The effort’s end goal is to wrap up DOGE’s work within 18 months.
Trump’s first executive order outlining the effort said his U.S. DOGE Service Temporary Organization is set to terminate July 4, 2026.
