Senate blocks bid to reinstate Colorado air pollution limits

The legislation was the latest Democratic resolution against President Donald Trump’s deregulatory agenda.

Senate Republicans blocked Democratic legislation Wednesday to reinstate a Colorado plan rejected by the Trump administration meant to increase visibility.

Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) sponsored a Congressional Review Act resolution to scrap EPA’s rejection of the regional haze plan. The legislation failed to advance 46-52 along party lines.

Democrats have been using the CRA — a law that makes it easier for Congress to undo recent administration rules — to attack President Donald Trump’s agenda.

Clean Air Act regional haze plans can force polluting power plants and other facilities to upgrade their systems or shut down. The Trump EPA said Colorado’s offering was too restrictive.
