Senate Agriculture Committee Democrats are planning to release their own farm bill framework amid an impasse with Republicans over the $1.5 trillion piece of legislation’s reauthorization.

The move is expected as early as Wednesday and comes just weeks before House Agriculture Chair Glenn Thompson (R-Pa.) plans to release his farm bill.

Thompson has said his committee will hold a markup on the legislation in the latter half of May. Senate Agriculture Republicans plan to release their own farm bill framework after Thompson unveils his plan.

The Senate Democrats’ framework is expected to include Chair Debbie Stabenow’s (D-Mich.) crop insurance proposal. That plan would require producers to choose between more affordable crop insurance offerings and Agriculture Risk Coverage or Price Loss Coverage programs for crops.
