Senior Senate Democrats are calling for the ouster of EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin over accusations that he lied to Congress about climate grant cancellations.

Environment and Public Works Committee ranking member Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) and Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) took to the floor before they leaving for recess to present evidence they say should prompt Zeldin’s resignation. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) backed the effort. The agency is pushing back.

“EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin has failed in his duty to protect American families from the harms of pollution and climate change,” Schumer said in a statement.

“As he puts us on the fast track to climate disaster, he is making families sicker, polluting our country, and driving up health care and energy costs — all to benefit Trump’s billionaire donors. Zeldin is a disgrace, and it is beyond time for him to go,” Schumer added.
