Senate Commerce Chair Ted Cruz and ranking member Maria Cantwell on Monday released bipartisan legislation to reauthorize the nation’s pipeline safety regulator, which is due to be marked up by the panel this week.

Cruz, a Texas Republican, and Cantwell, a Washington Democrat, are joined on the measure with Sens. Todd Young (R-Ind.) and Gary Peters (D-Mich.), who lead the subcommittee with jurisdiction over pipeline safety.

The bill, dubbed the “PIPELINE Safety Act of 2025,” represents an attempt to reauthorize the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration’s safety programs for the first time since 2020.
