The Senate followed the House’s lead in leaving left Washington on Wednesday night for the final weeks of campaigning before the November elections.

In doing so, the Senate punted action on top nominees until the lame duck session, including Shannon Estenoz for Interior deputy secretary.

The Energy and Natural Resources Committee approved Estenoz — currently assistant secretary for fish, wildlife and parks — with bipartisan support this summer. She would replace acting deputy Laura Daniel-Davis.
