The Senate voted Tuesday along party lines to advance a resolution that would scrap a Biden-era resource management plan for Montana public lands.
The vote was 50-47. The resource management plan was part of former President Joe Biden’s move against new mining in the coal-rich Powder River Basin of Wyoming and Montana.
The House already voted 211-208 for a Congressional Review Act resolution, H.J. Res. 104, to undo the plan and prevent any administration from pursuing a similar one. Every member of Montana’s congressional delegation backs the legislation.
Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.) said during floor remarks that repealing the “anti-coal” rule “will grow Montana energy jobs and help our rural communities.”
