The Energy and Natural Resources Committee had postponed the hearing because of the government shutdown.

A Senate Energy and Natural Resources subcommittee will weigh a list of public land and wildfire bills Tuesday after the federal shutdown thwarted a previous effort to hold a hearing on the legislation.

The Public Lands, Forests and Mining Subcommittee — led by Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) — will consider more than two dozen proposals from both sides of the aisle.

The hearing suggests an increased focus on legislation after the committee spent most of this year processing nominees and portions of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Many of the committee’s lawmakers would like to see a lands package become law by next year.

Among the bills up for consideration is S. 764, the “Colorado Outdoor Recreation and Economy (CORE) Act,” from Sens. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) and John Hickenlooper (D-Colo.). A House companion has been introduced by Rep. Joe Neguse (D-Colo.).
