The Senate cleared the way late Monday for a final vote to scrub an EPA rule aimed at further limiting the public’s exposure to toxic air pollutants.
By a 51-43 margin, senators agreed to advance H.J. Res 61, from Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-Va.), which would repeal updated hazardous air pollutant standards for tire manufacturers. A vote to pass the measure is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
While Monday’s tally mostly fell along party lines, Virginia’s two Democratic senators, Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, joined Republicans. The state has significant tire manufacturing facilities.
The House had approved the legislation in March, also largely on party lines. It would use the Congressional Review Act to scrap the strengthened air toxics standards published last November during the final months of then-President Joe Biden’s administration.
