Texas Republican Sens. Ted Cruz and John Cornyn have introduced legislation to protect liquefied natural gas export facilities from litigation.

Under the “Protect LNG Act,” courts would not be able to scrap permits under the Natural Environmental Policy Act and the Natural Gas Act. Instead, they would have to give regulators a chance to address concerns.

The legislation would also direct lawsuits against LNG facilities to appeals courts, and it would have them expedite consideration of certain cases.

The proposal, which has little chance of passing in the current Congress, is part of the GOP’s defense of LNG exports from pushback by the administration and environmental groups.
