Republican Sen. Ted Budd is prepared to lift one of his three holds on Department of Homeland Security nominees after the agency announced a new round of disaster aid for western North Carolina.

Budd said Tuesday that he would allow a Senate vote on the nomination of James Percival to be DHS general counsel “as soon as the approved funds are received by [western North Carolina] communities.”

DHS, which houses the Federal Emergency Management Agency, announced Tuesday that it delivered $155 million “in relief to those most impacted by Hurricane Helene,” which devastated the Southeast just over a year ago.

Budd and Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) have been blocking the quick confirmation of three of President Donald Trump’s DHS picks until they receive both more funding and more clarity about how FEMA will help communities that are still recovering.
