Senators look to advance more energy, environment picks

Republicans want to make progress on dozens of administration and judicial nominees in the next two weeks.

Senate Republicans are looking to advance dozens of nominees before the upcoming holiday recess scheduled to start in about two weeks.

The Environment and Public Works Committee will vote on Douglas Weaver, President Donald Trump’s nominee to fill out the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

The veteran of NRC and private sector nuclear energy jobs may secure bipartisan support after promising during his confirmation hearing last week to safeguard the agency’s independence.

The panel will also advance, likely along party lines, Lee Beaman to join the Tennessee Valley Authority board. Beaman promised to support keeping TVA public, but Democrats voiced concern about his qualifications.
