The Senate Judiciary Committee is preparing to vote as soon as this week on nominees for the 1st and 9th U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals.

Both courts — based in opposite sides of the country — are battlegrounds on energy and environment policy issues, including the administration’s initiatives.

First Circuit nominee Joshua Dunlap, a partner at the Maine law firm Pierce Atwood, would be the only active judge appointed by a Republican president.
