The Sierra Club is backing Ruben Gallego in Arizona’s U.S. Senate race, a key election in determining which party controls the Senate’s majority.
Gallego, a member of the House since 2015, is the only major Democrat running in the race. He’s expected to face Republican Kari Lake, a former news anchor and gubernatorial candidate.
“We are at a pivotal moment in the fight to address climate change, and we are confident that Ruben Gallego will continue to work hard to protect Arizona’s families’ health, their access to clean air and water, and help build a clean energy economy that works for everyone,” Rebecca Hinton, a member of the Sierra Club’s Arizona political committee, said in a statement.
Gallego would be crucial to the continued success of the Inflation Reduction Act, the group said, applauding his work in the House on the environment and protecting key public lands in Arizona like the Grand Canyon.
