Lawmakers will be in the Capitol building to vote to certify election results, though, and federal telework and remote employees are expected to work.

Federal agencies in the Washington area closed Monday as the nation’s capital was blanketed with snow.

The Office of Personnel Management announced Sunday that government offices in the region would close and “maximum telework” would be in effect. In turn, federal employees who do not telework were granted weather and safety leave for the hours they were scheduled to work.

Telework and remote employees, however, have not received that leave and are expected to work.

Despite the inclement weather, Congress is moving forward with its plans. Lawmakers will be in the Capitol building Monday afternoon to vote to certify President-elect Donald Trump’s election victory.
