California-based Radiant Nuclear announced an agreement with the Pentagon on Wednesday for delivering the first-ever mass-manufactured microreactor to a military base by 2028.

Radiant’s 1-megawatt Kaleidos reactor — strong enough to power about 500 homes and businesses — is built to be rapidly transported and deployed.

“In 36 months, Kaleidos reactors will arrive via truck and within 48 hours plug in, power on, and provide resilient, cyber-secure power to our nation’s Air Force for years without refueling,” CEO Doug Bernauer said in a press release.
