State Farm, the nation’s largest property insurer, is accusing Illinois’ insurance regulator of interfering with other state regulators that tried to get policy and claims data from the company.

State Farm said in a recent court filing that Illinois Insurance Director Ann Gillespie tried to block other state regulators in an attempt “to take on the role of a nationwide insurance regulator.”

Gillespie undertook “improper efforts over the last 21 months to supplant the exclusive regulatory authority belonging to each state insurance regulator with her own,” State Farm said in a court filing.
