The Sunrise Movement is launching a major campaign aimed at mobilizing 1.5 million young voters to support Kamala Harris for president.
It’s the youth-focused climate change group’s biggest action to date in favor of the current vice president, but Sunrise is stopping short of endorsing her and vice presidential hopeful Tim Walz.
“Young climate voters could decide this election,” Sunrise spokesperson Stevie O’Hanlon said in a statement. “The Harris-Walz ticket means millions more young voters are tuning in and considering voting. We’re going all-out to reach those voters and mobilize our generation to defeat [former President Donald] Trump this November. And — it’s why we will continue to urge the Harris campaign to put forward a bold vision that will energize young voters.”
Sunrise said it plans to use face-to-face, phone and digital methods to engage with young voters. It cited recent polling commissioned by Climate Power, which found that voters saw Harris as better than Trump on climate by a 23 percent margin and clean energy by 22 percent.
