Roundup weedkiller manufacturer Monsanto, which faces thousands of lawsuits alleging that its product causes cancer, will get its day before the nation’s highest court this spring.

The Supreme Court will convene April 27 to hear the company’s bid to dismiss a $1.25 million verdict that a Missouri court awarded to John Durnell, a longtime Roundup user who later developed non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Durnell’s lawsuit is one of thousands that have been filed against Monsanto for failing to warn customers about the health effects of glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup.

The litigation could put Bayer, which bought Monsanto in 2018, on the hook for billions of dollars in damages.
