Tariffs and politics are casting a shadow on the market. But that isn’t stopping a Jeff Bezos-backed company and Foxconn, which manufactures iPhones, from jumping in.

The outlook for American electric vehicles is as murky as it gets, but that’s not stopping two big tech names from betting on a rosier future.

One, called Slate Auto, is backed by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, according to a report by TechCrunch. It plans to produce a $25,000 electric truck from a factory site in Indiana as soon as next year.

A second is Foxconn, best known as lead manufacturer of Apple’s iPhone. On Wednesday, one of Foxconn’s top managers said at a conference in Japan that it would develop a new line of six electric vehicles, with two of them destined for the U.S. market, according to Automotive News.
