The Senate also took more votes Monday on United Nations Ambassador Mike Waltz.

The Senate on Monday confirmed Mike Waltz to represent the United States before the United Nations General Assembly and may see dozens more picks approved in the coming days.

The chamber had already approved Waltz — President Donald Trump’s former national security adviser — to become U.N. ambassador, but lawmakers had to take a separate vote on the General Assembly.

The 54-45 vote for Waltz — who used to represent a coastal Florida district in the House — was largely along party lines. Only three Democrats crossed the aisle to support him Monday: John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, Mark Kelly of Arizona and Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire. Rand Paul of Kentucky was the lone Republican “no” vote.

Separately Monday, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) set the stage for an initial procedural vote on a second tranche of agency nominees. They include Federal Energy Regulatory Commission picks Laura Swett and David LaCerte.
