Tiernan Sittenfeld, a longtime leader inside the League of Conservation Voters, has been hired as the new president and CEO of the National Parks Conservation Association.

Sittenfeld is slated to start on March 1, NPCA said Monday. She’ll take the reins from Theresa Pierno, who announced last summer that she planned to step down once the nonprofit’s board found her replacement.

Sittenfeld sees this moment as a “pivotal juncture for America’s national parks,” she said in a statement.
