This week will be pivotal for major energy and environment nominees, including President Donald Trump’s picks to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, EPA and the Council on Environmental Quality.
The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee will question’s Trump’s two latest FERC choices, as the agency’s independence and future role in grid oversight, energy markets and fossil fuel infrastructure remain in question.
Trump has tapped energy attorney Laura Swett to serve a full five-year term through 2030 and David LaCerte, a White House adviser and former Louisiana veterans official, to fill a shorter slot ending in 2026.
If confirmed, the two Republicans would hand Trump a majority on the commission — and potentially reset FERC’s direction on issues ranging from gas pipeline approvals to data center energy demands.
