Trump admin to probe DEI-slashing, return-to-office progress

The president has sought to dramatically downsize and reshape the federal workforce to align with his policy agenda.

The Trump administration plans to review how agencies fared in meeting two of President Donald Trump’s top priorities: ending diversity programs and bringing back staff to the office.

The Office of Personnel Management said in a memo last week that it was conducting “two Governmentwide studies” of how agencies implemented requirements to end diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility, or DEIA, initiatives as well as have federal employees return to in-person work.

Both efforts stem from a series of executive orders that Trump signed early into his second administration. The president has sought to dramatically downsize and reshape the federal workforce to align with his policy agenda.

Curt Levey, associate director for merit system accountability and compliance at OPM, said in the memo sent to chief human capital officers, “We will request information regarding your Agency’s actions to end DEI/DEIA programs and have employees report to an office.”
