A nonprofit legal group is expanding its team as it wages war against the Trump administration in court.
Democracy Forward, a nonprofit that’s suing the administration over its efforts to overhaul the federal government, is beefing up its staff and expanding its efforts to bolster public support for the civil service.
The organization this week announced the hiring of attorneys Laura Gaztambide Arandes, Anashua Dutta and Louis Katz. Arandes, formerly of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, joins Democracy Forward as deputy managing attorney. Dutta joins as a senior staff attorney after working at the Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law; Katz is a Justice Department veteran hired as counsel to Democracy Forward.
Astrid Dorélien, who previously served at the State Department, has been hired as program director of Democracy Forward’s civil service fellows initiative. Alissa Lopez joins the group as the deputy director for Democracy 2025, a coalition of groups fighting the Trump administration in court. Lopez was previously strategic partnerships director at American Oversight.
