An oil state governor, an energy executive and a regulation-slashing enthusiast are President-elect Donald Trump’s picks for his Cabinet’s top energy slots.
By naming Liberty Energy CEO Chris Wright as his nominee for Energy secretary over the weekend, Trump filled out his roster of nominees for his top three senior energy and environment slots.
Wright — along with Interior nominee Doug Burgum and EPA nominee Lee Zeldin — will be tasked with making good on Trump’s plans to slash Biden-era regulations and boost domestic fossil fuel production if they’re confirmed by the Senate.
They’re all poised to be major policy players under Trump, who has vowed to make “energy dominance” and government downsizing key to his second term in the White House. Trump has signaled an elevated role for energy policy by announcing that Burgum will lead a new National Energy Council to coordinate energy policy from the White House.
