President Donald Trump announced Wednesday his intent to nominate four judges, with one handpicked from his own legal team.

Justin Smith, who defended Trump’s presidential immunity before the Supreme Court in 2024, was tapped to become a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit in Missouri.

Smith is currently an attorney with the James Otis Law Group and previously worked in the Missouri Attorney General’s Office as a first assistant and chief of staff, among other legal roles.
