The nomination comes as President Donald Trump seeks to further his influence on the key appeals courts.

President Donald Trump has nominated an administration attorney to an open seat on the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Jennifer Mascott is currently serving as senior counsel in the White House counsel’s office and was floated as a potential judicial pick during Trump’s first term.

Trump announced the nomination to the Philadelphia-based court on Truth Social last week, noting Mascott had clerked for Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Brett Kavanaugh, “where she learned much about upholding the Constitution, and safeguarding our Freedoms.”

Trump called Mascott a “Highly Respected Constitutional Law Professor” who served in the Department of Justice during his first term. She was serving as an associate law professor at the Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law before joining the White House in March.
