President Donald Trump on Wednesday nominated Ho Nieh, the vice president of regulatory affairs at Southern Nuclear, to fill a vacant seat on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
The White House sent Nieh’s nomination to the Senate to fill the remainder of the term previously held by former Democratic Commissioner Christopher Hanson through June 30, 2029.
Nieh has extensive experience in nuclear regulation. He previously held multiple senior roles at the NRC. He joined the agency in 1997, rising to positions including director of the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation.
Beyond his NRC tenure, Nieh has international experience, having served as the director of the Division of Nuclear Safety Technology and Regulation at the Nuclear Energy Agency. He also advised the International Atomic Energy Agency and held various positions at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, contributing notably as a civilian instructor in the Navy’s Nuclear Power Program.
