A Virginia couple is taking President Donald Trump and the National Park Service to court over demolition of the East Wing of the White House to make way for a massive ballroom.

Their lawsuit, filed Thursday in federal court in Washington, says the administration failed to secure “legally required approvals or reviews” to destroy part of a building that they — and former White House occupants this week — said belongs to the American people.

“It’s not his house. It’s your house. And he’s destroying it,” said Hillary Clinton, former first lady and the secretary of State for former President Barack Obama, in a Tuesday post on the social media site X.

The couple — Charles and Judith Voorhees — are pushing the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia to issue a temporary restraining order against further destruction of the White House. Images of the demolition surfaced this week, even though Trump previously said his $250 million ballroom would be near the White House but wouldn’t touch the existing structure.
