Trump orders hike to national park fees for nonresidents

A vacation to a national park in the United States could soon require proof of residency.

President Donald Trump last week signed an executive order to increase entry fees to national parks for foreign visitors in a bid to raise revenues.

Trump inked the order Thursday, alongside the creation of a new conservation commission and a Interior Department program leveraging private donations to help maintain public lands.

“America’s national parks have provided generations of American families with unforgettable memories,” Trump wrote in the order directing higher park fees for visitors. “It is the policy of my Administration to preserve these opportunities for American families in future generations by increasing entry fees for foreign tourists, improving affordability for United States residents, and expanding opportunities to enjoy America’s splendid national treasures.”
